Anyone who has owned a steel hull knows that "
rust never sleeps." The slightest scratch, the smallest pinhole, any infinitesimal flaw in the barrier coating will quickly start bubbling and weeping a brown/red stain.
Although
Practical-Sailor compared 12 corrosion inhibitors in their April 2007 issue, I do not classify any of the products tested as
paint appropriate for the bottom, hull, bulwarks, etc., and therefore decided not add any to my ever-growing list of products to evaluate. We have applied a variety of paint products in an attempt to manage rust. These pages chronicle our attempts to manage, reduce, and in some cases eliminate creeping rust.
None of these comments are meant to endorse or recommend any particular product, system, or application. It is simply a record of our various experiences. Questions and suggestions are always welcome as we continue to wage war on rust.
